Asian Geos mobilises its 6th survey vessel for Southeast Asia operations

Singapore, 7 September 2012 – Asian Geos group has achieved yet another milestone in its 10-year operational history, following the mobilisation of another vessel to undertake a shallow water geotechnical campaign in West Papua, Indonesia. The 51m Landing Craft, will be equipped with a motion-compensated marine drill rig AG-25 which was previously deployed in the Caspian Sea and Europe.

The work in West Papua will comprise of a pilot hole drilling to 150m to confirm the absence of shallow gas followed by a few deep boreholes to collect foundation data for a piled platform foundation.

Asian Geos has already five vessels on its fleet namely the Malaysian-flagged MV Geos and DP Geoasia, MV Volans, MV Iyzco Supplier and a dedicated Malaysian-flagged geophysical survey vessel MV Dayang Sari. This does not include the marine drill rig that AG supplies onboard the MV PTSC Surveyor in Vietnam.

“Having to prepare more drilling teams to handle the simultaneous 5 offshore soil boring operations in one go is quite a challenge to us. Our efforts in engaging drilling personnel from various Asian nationalities have actually paid off – we are now having adequate number of offshore personnel to support more than 6 spreads at any given time, “says Asian Geos Drilling Director, Ismail Md Yusof.

The General Manager (Survey Division), Mazlan Mustapha adds, “the increase in the number of geotechnical vessels operated by the company will also mean we have to provide more borehole positioning equipment and personnel on each of the vessels. This would be in addition to the survey personnel we are currently providing on our own survey vessel, MV Dayang Sari.” With the supports from Gardline, he thinks that the demand for more supports from his survey division can still be met.

The increase in the number of geotechnical and survey vessels operated by the Asian Geos group re-affirms the position of the company as one of the leading providers of survey services in Asia.
