AG successfully conducted a Workshop for its Geotechnical Engineers

Kuala Lumpur, 8 March 2003 – a week long offshore geotechnical workshop aimed at enhancing the technical knowledge and engineering skills of the geotechnical engineers of Asian Geos ends today with a big success. The workshop which was held at both the head office and at AG’s Soils Laboratory in Kuala Lumpur started on 4th of March with a presentation by Technical Director Ahmad Fikri Mustapa followed technical talks by General Manager Abd Rasid Jaapar, Geotechnical Specialist David Soh, Senior Engineer Dr. Denny Tami, Lab Manager Dharam Singh and Engineering Manager Christian Girsang. The topics covered includes Onshore & Offshore Lab Testing , Party Chief: Roles, Responsibilities and Commercial Senses, Introduction to Onshore Site Investigation, Basic Soil Mechanics, Pile Capacity, PY, TZ & QZ Data and Basic GRLWEAP.

The workshop was officially launched by Managing Director Dato’ Helmi Zulkawi.

The key presenter for the Workshop was Paul Handidjaja of Braemer Technical Services who started his presentation with a bit of history lesson on the offshore geotechnical industry. Paul, one of the most experienced and highly regarded offshore geotechnical engineers in this region, presented on the Importance of In-Situ and Laboratory Testing and Understanding of Geophysical Acquisition and Integration Study. In the afternoon session, Paul conducted a hands-on training on the proper techniques of offshore lab test, recording and evaluation of results.

The topics covered by Paul in the third day of the workshop including: soil data acquisition, data processing, plotting and presentation in the morning and tutorial assignment on presentation and interpretation of the results in the afternoon. Whilst in his last day, Paul explained more on: Basic Geotechnical Engineering Parameters, Selection of Parameters and Interpretation, Foundation Assessment, Report Writing, Recommendation and “Swiss Cheese” whilst the afternoon session was spent on select Problem Solving and Case Histories.

The last day of the workshop coordinated by Dr. Denny Tami who covered on the topic of Offshore Geotechnical Analysis and CPT Data Processing. The last session was handled by David Soh who highlighted Lessons learned from a Case Study.
